Mason District Hospital is proud to have board certified surgeons and several specialty physicians on our surgical staff, offering a wide range of surgical procedures. The Surgical Department includes 3 pre-op beds, 2 operating rooms, and 3 PACU (post anesthesia care unit) beds. We offer both inpatient and outpatient services. We do all types of surgeries; general surgery, minimally invasive surgery, orthopedics, endoscopy, podiatry, and OB/GYN. Our team of experienced professionals includes highly trained surgeons, specialty physicians, anesthesia providers, and surgical registered nurses. The surgical team provides outstanding care before, during and after your surgery.

Inpatient surgery is more for complex surgical procedures that require you to be admitted to Mason District Hospital. The length of your stay will depend on you surgeon’s expert medical advice, the type of surgery, and your progress after surgery. Outpatient surgery is for less complex procedures and minimally-invasive procedures. Many different types of surgical procedures are performed on an outpatient basis at Mason District Hospital.

What is Anesthesia?

Anesthesia is a medication that prevents you from feeling pain during surgery and other procedures; it is given by our CRNA, the main forms of anesthesia are:

Local Anesthesia – numbs only part of your body

Spinal/Regional Anesthesia – numbs a large area of your body

General Anesthesia – temporarily puts you into a deep sleep

Before surgery the nurse anesthetist will interview you and develop an anesthesia plan. Make sure you tell them all the medicines you take including over the counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements. Prior to your surgery, one of the surgical nurses will contact you with instructions prior to your surgery.
