Cardiopulmonary Department

Cardiopulmonary Services involves both the heart and the lungs. Proper functioning is essential for a human being to survive. Mason District Hospital’s Cardiopulmonary Department is staffed with Respiratory Therapists who maintain certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

Our services include but are not limited to:

Nebulizer Treatments – Inhalation therapy with medicine to be administered directly to the lungs. Commonly used for treatment of COPD, (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease); asthma; cystic fibrosis; and other respiratory diseases.

PFT’s (Pulmonary Function Testing) – Test to evaluate how well your lungs can work. The tests can diagnose lung diseases, measure to the severity of lung functions and problems. Also can check to see how well treatment for lung disease is working.

EKGs (Electrocardiogram) – An electrical tracing to the heart. It helps the physician to measure and diagnose abnormal rhythms of the heart.

Holter Monitoring – A recording device that the patient wears home and records your heart rhythms for 24 to 48 hours. Helps the physician diagnose abnormal heart rhythms that an EKG might not capture.

Event Monitoring – A device the patient wears home for at least 2 weeks or up to 30 days. A recording device that records their heart activity when events occur that may not be captured on an EKG.

Stress Testing (Exercise Stress) – Is used to gather information about how well your heart works during physical activity.
